The City of Anna Maria is a residential community, situated at the northern end of Anna Maria Island. Our city is known for its world class beaches, its friendly people and its laid-back lifestyle. Our Island sister cities are Holmes Beach,
just to our south, and Bradenton Beach, which stretches to the southern tip of the island.

Many of our city’s property owners are part-time residents. Anna Maria’s population is just over 1800, but roughly triple that during the winter season when our weather is the envy of most of the rest of the country.

You can always find so much to do on Anna Maria Island, located on the Gulf Coast of Florida! Anna Maria Island is broken up into 3 Cities - Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach and Anna Maria, and can be toured by our free Trolly. Start the day out enjoying the view and breakfast at Gulf Drive Cafe, or grab a "To Go Order" from Paradise Bagels and enjoy it on the white sugar sand beach. A wonderful selection of shops can be visited from one end of Anna Maria Island to the other,
or slip over the bridge to Long Boat Key for the afternoon. Evenings can be satisfied with a wonderful dinner at Beach Bistro or one of the many Award Winning restaurants. Enjoy a live performance at Island Players, or live music at The Beach House. Vacations in Florida start on Anna Maria Island.

Naples is a lively spot, with much to see and do, a fantastic range of bars and restaurants, superb shopping and great sports facilities. Port Charlotte 1 Casas
Port Charlotte is a great place for some very special vacations on the Gulf of Mexico in Florida.

Why not visit the Charlotte County Historical Center (Historical Places & Services; 22959 Bayshore Road), the McCall Florida Section House Studio (Historical Places & Services; 6284 Sailors Way), or the Charlotte Harbor & the Gulf Islands (1600 Tamiami Trail Suite 100).

Tampa, or even Disney and Orlando can easily be a one day's trip to something special.

Punta Gorda 1 Casas
The name Punta Gorda means "Broad Point" and dates back to the landing of Ponce de Leon in 1513.

Situated approximately 100 miles south of Tampa on the Gulf Coast with easy access from I-75. Charlotte Harbor flanks the northwest side of the city offering 129 square miles of sparkling water, clear sunshine, fishing at its greatest, wildlife in abundance and a casual, friendly atmosphere that appeals to those who are seeking the natural pleasures of life.

Unique shops and Restaurants continue to expand the fine reputation of Punta Gorda's charm. Churches outnumber nightclubs (11 to 1), and you're far more likely to see sandals and shorts than designer garb.

Temperatures range from the mid 90s in the summer to the mid to upper 60s in the winter, rarely has the temperature gone below 50 degrees. In the winter, a light jacket is all that is needed to protect anyone from getting a chill; while in the summer, the breeze off the Gulf keeps you comfortable, even on the hottest days. The rainy season is during the summer and early fall. Accompanied by a Gulf breeze the showers roll in about 4 or 5 p.m., just in time to cool things down. Rain rarely stops activities, as the water quickly evaporates and the pleasures of living resume.

Fishing is a major attraction. For the novice and/or the master angler, area waters are a treat. Charter Boats or head boats will take the fisherman or woman out into the Gulf of Mexico where grouper, mackerel, snapper or tarpon will just about jump onto the hook. In the passes, off bridges, in coves or in Lemon Bay, one can catch trout, sheepshead or snook. A license may not be necessary while on charter boats or head boats, however on shore or in a personal fishing craft, a license is required. They may be obtained at Sarasota or Charlotte County tax collector's offices or at some of the local bait shops, where rules, limits, seasons, tides and weather information are also available.

Rotonda Retreat 5 Casas
The 32-acre park is located at the northeast corner of Rotonda Boulevard East and Parade Circle. The park features a multipurpose sports field, two tennis courts, a picnic pavilion, a bike path that snakes its way through the area's nature preserve, and rest room facilities.

ACTIVITIES ON ROTONDA RETREAT

GOLF: Here are a few of the nearly 150 courses to choose from. The mileage below indicates approximately how far each course is from Rotonda Retreat.

  • Myakka Pines, Myakka 9 miles (Public)
  • Oyster Creek, Englewood 5 miles (Public)
  • Port Charlotte Golf, Port Charlotte 20 miles (Public)
  • Rotonda Palms, Rotonda 1 mile (Public)
  • Sabal Trace, North Port 20 miles (Public)
  • Venice East, Venice 19 miles (Public)

FISHING:
This area reportedly has some of the best fishing in the world; at Lemon Bay, Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico. Boca Grande is said to be the "Tarpon Fishing Capital of the World," and fishermen around the globe drop in to the
"World's Richest Tarpon Tournament," held early summer. Whether fishing on the Gulf, the intra-coastal waterways, or in our back garden, be sure to check the local fishing laws, as licenses are required.

WILDLIFE:
An abundance of bird life is present in the Rotonda area; bald eagles, the great blue heron, ospreys, egrets, American white pelicans and brown pelicans to name but a few. The latter put on a great diving show when they plummet from great
heights to feast on unaware fish. Manatees (sea cows) are flourishing and sometimes stay in local waters year round.
Remember to obey the speed signs when in manatee protection zones. Bottlenose dolphins can be seen swimming and frolicking in the Gulf. They are so approachable, but don't feed them as it is against the law. Beginning May 1 to
October 31 is the sea turtle nesting season. They plod from the sea, at night, to lay their eggs on the beach, which take about six weeks to mature. Check with the Englewood Chamber of Commerce for guided outings to view the turtles.

SHOPPING:
The Port Charlotte Town Center Mall, the Sarasota Square Mall and the VF Factory Outlet are a diversion from the beach, watersports and outdoors life. Supermarkets conveniently located to Rotonda Retreat are Publix at Cape Haze and Kash 'n' Karry. Also close by, a post office, video rental store and the quaint specialty stores of Boca Grande.

Sanibel Island 3 Casas
A recent New York Times article writes "A family learns that Sanibel in Florida is habit-forming...Now with strict zoning and environmental regulation, the winter population rarely rises above 30,000. Nature preserves make up most of the island's acreage, the beaches are not crowded, and tourists like us can enjoy the best of both worlds...We rent bicycles and tour parts of the islands 23 miles of hill-free bike trails, swim in the pool, and comb the beach to our heart's content."

Spring Hills 2 Casas
Situated in Florida's Gulf Coast, Spring Hill is a 10-15 drive to beautiful beaches, numerous golf courses, wildlife parks, restaurants and of course shops. An excellent base for exploring the metropolis of Tampa, St.Petersburg and Clearwater without the hussle and bussle of a large spawling city. What a better way of chilling out after a hectic day at Busch Gardens or Disney. (Orlando attractions are around 90 minute drive).
